Dealer, Distributor, Manufacturer & Transporter License Plates

Effective September 1, 2021, dealers, distributors, and manufacturers must complete registrations and plate renewal applications online using DRIVES e-Services.

House Bill 207 makes it mandatory for motor vehicle dealers, manufacturers and distributors registering with the Department to register electronically. All initial and renewal registrations must be made through DRIVES e-Services.

Transporters should register with the Business Registration Unit at the MVD Main Office.

Definitions

  • Franchise Dealer - any person with an established place of business in Georgia engaged in the buying, selling, exchanging, or leasing new motor vehicles under a franchise agreement with a vehicle manufacturer.
  • Independent Dealer – any licensed person with an established place of business in Georgia engaged in the business of buying, selling, or exchanging used motor vehicles.
  • Motorcycle Dealer – any person with an established place of business in Georgia engaged in the business of buying, selling, or exchanging new or used motorcycles.
  • Used Parts Dealer – any person with an established place of business in Georgia engaged in buying, selling, or using motor vehicle parts, either as a used motor vehicle parts dealer, a motor vehicle dismantler, a motor vehicle re-builder, a salvage pool dealer, or a salvage dealer.
  • Transporter - any person with an established place of business in Georgia engaged in the business of transporting vehicles from, to, or within Georgia.
