Title and Register a Vehicle Purchased in a Casual Sale
On this page find information for obtaining a title and registration for a vehicle purchased through a casual sale (e.g. non-dealer sales.)
Required Information
Complete Title Applications and License Plate Registrations at your County Tag Office.
- Valid Georgia’s driver’s license or ID card
- Proof of ownership
- Original valid title properly assigned to you. All recorded liens and/or security interests against the previous owner must be released in the spaces provided on the title.
- Title assignment form on back completed and signed by buyer and seller. Read more about how to Transfer Vehicle Titled In Georgia.
- Provide Bill of Sale if the vehicle is 1985 or older and does not require a title. A properly completed Form T-22B Certification of Inspection is also required if not previously registered in Georgia.
- If transferred from a non-title state or country, a registration document from the non-title state/country must be assigned to you using your full legal name. Also, provide a properly completed Form T-22B Certification of Inspection.
- Form MV-1 Title/Tag Application (this form can be printed at home or by the County Tag Office and will require your signature)
- Proof of insurance, by one of the following:
- Filed by your insurance company directly in the Department’s database
- Insurance Binder showing insurance liability coverage
- Emission Inspection Certificate, if applicable.
- Acceptable form of payment for all fees and/or taxes due:
- $20 license plate fee
- $18 title fee
- Title Ad Valorem Tax
- Any penalties due
