Department of Revenue Agents Arrest Car Dealers for Title Scam
Today, agents from the Department of Revenue’s Office of Special Investigations, along with Deputies from Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, arrested two car dealers for conducting a title scam out of their dealerships, Georgia Cash Cars, which had locations in both Acworth and Dalton. Roy L. Jackson and Tyschell K. Doyle Jackson were arrested at their Canton, Georgia home on charges of felony theft by deception. The Jacksons pawned the title of a vehicle in August of 2018, then illegally sold the vehicle while the title was still under pawn in January of 2019.
“By conducting this scam through their business, the Jacksons did a disservice to dealers throughout the state,” said Josh Waites, Director of the Office of Special Investigations. “I encourage everyone to do their due diligence when purchasing a vehicle whether it be from a new or used auto dealer.”
Additional charges are pending, as the investigation is ongoing. If you have any information relating to criminal activity at Georgia Cash Cars or believe you may be a victim, please contact the Department of Revenue at (404) 417-2180.
The Department encourages all individuals who are considering purchasing a vehicle to ensure they conduct their business with a reputable dealer, make certain you see copies of both the vehicle title and any other paperwork, and do a third party check on the vehicle to ensure it does not have any hidden issues.
