Today, Governor Brian Kemp swore in David Curry as the new State Revenue Commissioner. Commissioner Curry was appointed as the new Revenue Commissioner on May 3, he previously served as the Henry County Tax Commissioner. Commissioner Curry is the first ever tax commissioner to be appointed to the office of State Revenue Commissioner.

“I am honored to serve as the next State Revenue Commissioner and am excited to implement Governor Kemp’s Georgians First mission. Whether it be continuing various initiatives at the Department or tackling new challenges, I look forward to working to make Georgia the number one state for small business,” stated Commissioner Curry.

Biography

Born in Atlanta and raised in Henry County, David Curry earned his bachelor’s degree in Applied Science with an emphasis in Organizational Leadership from Mercer University and master’s degree in Business Administration from Georgia State University.

David Curry’s business career began at Ford Motor Company when he was eighteen. At Ford, he became Six Sigma Certified and participated in a four-year apprenticeship to train as an Industrial Electrician, later being selected as the liaison between Ford and the United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers (UAW) as a Skilled Trades Overtime Coordinator where he coordinated and scheduled over 320 employees.

In 2008, David Curry was elected Tax Commissioner of Henry County. Under his leadership, Henry County became the first tax commissioner’s office in Georgia to be recognized for its efforts in performance excellence with the Georgia Focus Recognition Award. Curry is also a recipient of the Henry County School Board’s Bridge Award for his work connecting schools with the community.

Curry is involved in many organizations, including the Constitutional Officers Association Georgia, Georgia Association of Tax Officials, and Tax Commissioners’ Technology Development Council of Georgia where he served as President from 2011 to 2013.

David Curry has been married to his high school sweetheart, Nicole, for twenty-five years. They have four children: Michaela, Jacob, Kennedy, and Caleb. The Currys are active members of Glen Haven Baptist Church in McDonough.
