Department of Revenue to Waive IRP/IFTA Requirements Due to Hurricane Michael
The Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Revenue, pursuant to the powers granted by law, is temporarily suspending the requirements associated with the Georgia International Registration Plan (IRP) and the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) trip and fuel permits for vehicles providing direct assistance with hurricane relief efforts. A copy of this letter must be present for inspection in each vehicle operating under this temporary suspension.
This waiver shall not be construed to allow any vehicle to operate in the State of Georgia without valid vehicle registration and insurance as required by the base state. Additionally, carriers are required to maintain compliance with all driver, owner, vehicle, and carrier compliance requirements that may fall outside of the IRP and IFTA orders that are specified within this waiver or any other rule, statute or requirement.
Note: Motor Carriers or drivers that are currently subject to State or Federal out-of-service orders are not eligible for the suspension of requirements in Georgia.
The suspension of IRP and IFTA requirements noted above shall be in effect until 5:00 pm on November 5th, 2018, or until completion of the hurricane relief efforts, whichever comes first.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact the Georgia Department of Revenue, Motor Vehicle Division at (855) 406-5221.
