Atlanta, GA – Due to a system issue the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) encountered on Tuesday morning, the IRS decided to extend the tax filing deadline until midnight on Wednesday, April 18, 2018. The Georgia Department of Revenue (DOR) is also extending the tax deadline at the state level until midnight on Wednesday.

“This (Tuesday, April 17, 2018) is the busiest tax day of the year, and the IRS apologizes for the inconvenience this system issue caused for taxpayers,” said Acting IRS Commissioner David Kautter. “The IRS appreciates everyone’s patience during this period. The extra time will help taxpayers affected by this situation.”

“We understand that this issue has affected many taxpayers,” said DOR Commissioner Lynne Riley. “The Department of Revenue seeks to ensure every taxpayer has the opportunity to file timely, so the Department has decided to follow the IRS and extend the state tax filing deadline.”

Both Individuals and businesses with a filing or payment due date of April 17, 2018 will now have until midnight on Wednesday, April 18, 2018.
