Bringing Alcohol into Georgia
On this page, find guidelines for submitting the required documentation for bringing alcohol into Georgia from another country, also know as a customs request. To prepare:
- Scan and save all required documentation as individual PDF files to upload to the Georgia Tax Center during the application process. They may be needed as you complete the application.
- Note: All excise tax payments must be paid by ACH Debit (electronic check only) during registration through Georgia Tax Center.

Military
Requests are submitted through the Georgia Tax Center (GTC) by military personnel relocating to Georgia from another country due to military orders.
They can ship an unlimited amount of alcohol for personal use and consumption.
The military orders must specify the individual is relocating to Georgia.
Required Documents
- Scanned copy of military orders with Georgia address
- Scanned copy of inventory list
- Secure & verifiable document (i.e. government issued photo ID)
- Scanned copy of personal use letter (letter stating the alcohol inventory will only be used for personal use and consumption and not for sale/resale)
Applying on GTC
- Go to the Georgia Tax Center
- Click on "Individual" (near the bottom-center of page)
- Click on "Request custom letter"
- Click on "Click to Request a customs letter"
- Step 1: "Click to Enter Traveler Information"
- Complete Information on page
- Click the box for "Traveling on military orders?"
- Click the box for "Release letter needed today"
- Click "OK"
- Step 2: "Enter Inventory"
- Complete ACH debit payment
- Attach the required documents
- Click "Submit"

Employment
Requests are submitted through Georgia Tax Center by individuals relocating to Georgia from another country due to employment and can ship an unlimited amount of alcohol for personal use and consumption.
Required Documents
- Scanned copy of employment letter
- Scanned copy of inventory list
- Secure & verifiable document (i.e. government issued photo ID)
- Scanned copy of personal use letter (letter stating the alcohol inventory will only be used for personal use and consumption and not for sale\resale)
How to Apply
- Go to the Georgia Tax Center
- Click on "Individual" (near the bottom-center of page)
- Click on "Request custom letter"
- Click on "Click to Request a customs letter"
- Step 1: "Click to Enter Traveler Information"
- Complete information on page
- Click the box for "Relocating due to employment?"
- Click "OK"
- Step 2: "Enter Inventory"
- Complete ACH debit payment
- Attach the required documents
- Click "Submit"

Personal
Requests are submitted through Georgia Tax Center by individuals shipping alcohol to Georgia from another state or country for personal use and consumption. These requests are limited in the amount of alcohol that can be shipped. Limitations are:
- 1 gallon of distilled spirits/liquor
- 2 cases of malt beverage/beer
- 2 cases of wine
Required Documents

- Secure & verifiable document (i.e. government issued photo ID)
- Scanned copy of personal use letter (letter stating the alcohol inventory will only be used for personal use and consumption and not for sale/resale)

- Go to the Georgia Tax Center
