Motor Vehicle Registration Renewals

The Department of Revenue (DOR) was recently notified by the vehicle registration renewal print vendor that they would not be able to fulfill the mailing of renewal notices to Georgia residents. This notification impacted the Department of Revenue as the supplier of the data, citizens of Georgia and local County Tax Commissioners who send out these courtesy mailings.

The DOR has found another vendor to produce these annual renewal notices. As details are finalized for future mailings with the new vendor, we wanted to inform registrants with December renewal deadlines that they will not be receiving the standard detailed registration renewal document this year.

Please Note: This is the result of a vendor issue and is in no way caused by local County Tax Commissioners. A standard registration notice will not be mailed for December renewals. Instead, drivers will receive a letter explaining that they will not be mailed renewal notices and be provided with additional options for renewing their registration in a timely manner.

Affected Drivers’ decals and registration will no longer be valid after their registration expires, typically on the registrant’s birthday. The expiration date is noted on their current registration card (in the upper right corner). Drivers need to renew as soon as possible, and prior to their deadline to avoid a lapse in registration.

Depending on the county, there are several renewal options available to Georgia registrants:

  • County Tag Office: With your tag information you can visit your local tag office to pay your registration and receive your decal. To locate the contact information for your County please visit www.dor.georgia.gov
  • Online: Residents of a participating county in the online renewal program can renew using the Renewal Identification Number (RIN) located on the renewal notice.  If the renewal notice is unavailable, a resident may use the RIN look-up tool found on the Department’s website.
  • Kiosk: Residents of a county participating in the kiosk program can process their renewals through a Tag renewal self-service kiosk located in certain Kroger store locations as well as some County Tag Offices. Visit our website for locations and hours.
