Georgia Department of Revenue Awarded Top Honors for Exadata Project

The Georgia Department of Revenue (DOR) was awarded top honors at the 2015 Technology Innovation Showcase for its Exadata Project. The projects were selected by an evaluation committee made up of both private and public sector representatives. The evaluation committee assessed each project according to how well it met the following criteria:

  • Level of innovation in addressing a specific business problem
  • Significance to improving business processes and operating efficiency
  • Significance to financial savings or cost avoidance
  • Significance to enhancing service delivery to external or internal customers

The DOR Exadata Project was initiated by the Department of Revenue’s Information Technology Division’s (ITD) Executive team to meet the strategic goals of providing DOR with an integrated database environment which would provide DOR with the ability to greatly improve existing database reliability, performance, support, scalability and security. Jeff Dalrymple, The Department of Revenue’s Interim Chief Information Officer, said, “The Exadata database machine has allowed us to meet and exceed the tax processing needs of the state. This positions us for continued growth in our taxpayer base as the state’s population increases.” The Exadata Project has enhanced reliability and stability of the Department’s tax applications and has greatly improved the Department’s business operations. Georgia now ranks in the top 5% in performance of states that use the GenTax application. DOR processes approximately 8 million tax returns a year and with the Exadata solution in place, batch processing performance has improved by more than 50%.

The Georgia Department of Revenue, Information Technology Division continuously searches for ways to meet Department’s goals: Improving customer service, operating more cost-effectively, and executing an efficient compliance program.
