Sell a Car?
I sold my car, what do I do now? To sell a vehicle, the owner must transfer ownership on the title AND cancel registration of the vehicle.
Titles
Transfer Ownership
- To transfer ownership, complete the assignment form on the back of the original title. Read more about Transfering a Vehicle Titled In Georgia.
- Complete a Bill of Sale Form T-7.
Remember to keep
- A copy of the transfer of ownership, including the title and any bill of sales for your records.
- The vehicles license plates/tags. These do not transfer with the vehicle to the new owner.
Registration
Cancel registration on the vehicle you sold
To avoid penalties, cancel your registration before cancelling your insurance on that vehicle.
Cancel your registration online using DRIVES e-Services.
Did you recieve a notice after you sold the vehicle?
You may get a notice about registration being suspended, but if you have sold the car, you can disregard the notice.
