Vehicle Registration Renewal - FAQ
-
When do vehicle owners typically receive their renewal notice?
If the county chooses to send renewal notices, vehicle owners typically receive them 30-45 days before their renewal date. You can sign up to receive your renewal notices by email. Go to DRIVES e-Services and select Go Green. Vehicle owners are responsible for meeting renewal deadlines whether they receive a renewal notice or not.
You can renew online using DRIVES e-Services up to 90 days before the vehicle owner’s birthday (in participating counties).
-
Will penalties/late fees be waived if I do not receive a renewal notice?
No, penalties and fees will not be waived. Failure to receive a renewal application does not relieve drivers of the obligation of registering their vehicle by the designated deadline. (Read where to register your vehicle.) Some but not all counties choose to send renewal notices as a courtesy to the owner.
-
How much are the penalties for late payment?
There is a $5 penalty on the registration fee and a 10% penalty of the ad valorem tax, if applicable. Find more information on Motor Vehicle fees, fines and penalties.
