Scrapped, Dismantled or Demolished Vehicle

On this page, find information about vehicles that are used for parts to repair other vehicles so that they may be rebuilt and eventually titled and registered.

A vehicle that has been demolished or scrapped or used for parts cannot be repaired or legally driven.

  • Salvage Dealers (Secondary Metals Recyclers, Parts Dealers, and Scrap Metal Processors)

    Salvage Dealers are required to report title cancellation information and National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) information to the Department of Revenue via Auto Data Direct, Inc. (ADD).

  • Vehicle Owners (less common)

    Georgia law (OCGA 40-3-36) requires the registered owner of any vehicle that has been scrapped, dismantled, or demolished as described above to submit the following:

    • The vehicle’s original Georgia title issued in the submitter’s name(s) or properly assigned to the submitter to the MVD Salvage Unit. Do not submit out-of-state/country titles or license plates.
    • Signed statement on letterhead containing a complete description of the vehicle including:
      • Year model
      • Make of the vehicle
      • Vehicle’s identification number (VIN)
      • Title number
    • If license plate is left on the vehicle:

    The MVD Salvage Unit will cancel the title and place indicators on the VIN that the vehicle cannot be titled.
