Guardian Appointed Title Application
Titles and tags can be obtained at your County Tag Office for a vehicle where a guardian has been appointed with the following information:
- Completed and signed MV-1 Title/Tag Application.
Visit your County Tag Office
- Original valid title or manufacturer’s statement of origin.
- Certified copy of the Probate Judge’s appointment of the Guardian. (A certified copy of any court document must have the Clerk of the Court’s signature and his or her seal or stamp affixed.)
- Georgia liability insurance reported by your Insurance Company and on record with the Department.
- $18 title fee.
Before the Guardian can sell the vehicle, written permissions must be obtained from the Probate Judge. The following should be submitted to your County Tag Office when the vehicle is sold:
- Completed and signed MV-1 Title/Tag Application.
- Original valid title – Properly assigned to the purchaser(s) by the Guardian.
- Certified copy of the court document, signed by the Probate Judge, authorizing the Guardian to sell the vehicle on behalf of the Ward must be submitted. (Certified copies of court documents must have the Clerk of the Court’s signature and his or her seal or stamp affixed.)
- Georgia liability insurance reported by your Insurance Company and on record with the Department.
- $18 title fee.
