Change Name on Title

To change your name on your Georgia Title

• Update your Georgia driver's license or identification card with the Department of Driver Services.
• You should change the name on your Georgia title at your County Tag Office.

Apply in Person

• Current Georgia Title
• Your valid Georgia driver's license or identification card
• Certified copy of a court document authorizing the name change:
  • divorce decree
  • marriage certificate, or
  • court order

Apply by Mail

• Properly completed Form MV-1 Title/Tag Application
• Current Georgia Title
• Copy of your Georgia driver's license or identification card.
• A certified copy of a court document authorizing the name change:
  • divorce decree
  • marriage certificate, or
  • court order
• If a lien or security interest has been paid:
  • The Title should be released in the spaces provided
  • Satisfied or paid lien or security information omitted from the title application.
