Below is an outline of what documents and methods of Taxpayer Representation is acceptable by the Georgia Department of Revenue.

Power of Attorney Info:

IRS Form 2848

  • Accepted for Lawyers, CPAs, Enrolled Agents and Registered Public Accountants provided the matters section lists Georgia information
  • Others must use the RD 1061

RD 1061

  • Accepted for all taxpayer representatives
  • Document is only notarized for representatives that are not a Lawyer, CPA, Enrolled Agent or Registered Public Accountant

Physical In-Person Permission

  • A taxpayer must provide verbal authorization to include the representative in the conversation provided the taxpayer is present.  This would only extend to that conversation
  • The taxpayer would be verified through the normal means; which would include verification of name, address, and tax year
  •  If additional information is needed to verify, the refund amount would be requested
