Biography - Tom McMurry
Tom comes to the Department of Revenue from the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC), where he served as their Chief Information Officer. At GDC, Tom was responsible for all aspects of technology including application development, project management, business analysis, application testing, network and server operations. While at GDC, Tom led the agency through a GETS server consolidation and application re-engineer with minimal disruption of service. During his tenure at GDC, he also led the agency through several significant IT security enhancements. In addition he served on several statewide steering committees to establish the multi-year enterprise technology plan.
Prior to joining Corrections, Tom served as the Chief Information Officer for the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) for nearly seven years. While Tom was at DDS, he led the agency through a complete modernization of all software applications required to perform the agency's core business of license and ID issuance. This project also changed all transactions from next business day to real-time processing. In addition, he led the complete redesign of the agency website to provide easier access to information for customers. This redesign won the State of Georgia Technology Innovation Award for 2013.
Prior to joining state government, Tom worked in the information technology field in the private sector, most recently with the Lane Company, where he worked as Vice-President of Information Technology.
Tom is a graduate of Georgia State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
Tom’s significant leadership experience in state government and knowledge of technology, coupled with his strong customer service and teamwork orientation, will serve him well as Chief Information Officer for the Department of Revenue.
